City crews and hardware stores gear up for snow storm - KXLY Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Inland Northwest is gearing up for the biggest snowfall of the season. Starting Friday, Spokane is expected to get as much as seven inches of snow in just 24 hours.

“One year we were snowed in for five days,” said Mark McKee, General Manager at Ace Hardware.

When it comes to a winter storm, there’s no such thing as being too prepared.

“My house is wired for a generator, so if I lose power I can fire my generator up,” said McKee.

McKee has lived in the Spokane area for the past 21 years. He knows a thing or two when it comes to prepping for the winter months, but said not everyone is on the same page.

“We’re not busy right now, but tomorrow this place will be cranking,” McKee said.

Meanwhile, city crews are keeping busy, hoping their hard work will make it easier for you to get around.

“Our employees will be working 24 hours a day to remove snow from all 22 lane miles within the city,” said Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward.

The city can’t do it alone. They’re asking people to move their cars into their driveways, park as close to the curb as possible, and to park on the odd numbered side of the street until plows have passed through.

When it comes to winterizing your home, getting a head start may be your best bet.

“We could run out of ice melt and snow shovels because they just sell really quickly,” said McKee.
