　１９日午前９時２５分頃、東京都中央区八重洲のＪＲ東京駅近くの高層ビル建設工事現場から「鉄骨が落下し、複数の作業員が負傷した」と１１０番があった。

　警視庁中央署幹部によると、作業中にビルの支柱が傾き、鉄骨１本（長さ約３０メートル、重さ約１５トン）が７階から３階部分に落下した。７階にいた男性作業員４人が鉄骨とともに３階まで転落し、３階にいた別の１人が巻き込まれた。

　５人のうち３０歳代と４０歳代の２人が搬送先の病院で死亡し、別の４０歳代の１人も意識不明の重体。残る２０歳代の２人も負傷したが命に別条はないという。

　工事はゼネコン大手の大林組と大成建設の共同企業体（ＪＶ）が手掛けている。ＪＶ事務所によると、事故当時、ビルの骨組みとなる鉄骨をつり上げていたところで、警視庁が詳しい状況を調べている。

　現場は東京駅八重洲口の東約２００メートル。ビルは地上５１階、地下４階の複合商業ビルで、再開発に伴い２０２１年に着工。オフィスや飲食店などのほかバスターミナルも入り、２５年の完成を予定している。

暖かく湿った空気の流れ込みは18日にかけて続く見込みで、九州北部では18日未明から朝にかけて、局地的に雷を伴った非常に激しい雨が降るおそれがあり、18日夕方までの24時間に降る雨の量は多いところで200ミリと予想されています。

気象庁は土砂災害に警戒するとともに、低い土地の浸水や川の増水、落雷や竜巻などの激しい突風、ひょうに十分注意するよう呼びかけています。

Yes!アキトの全国ツアー「Yes!アキト本興行2023『ダブル』」が11月12日（日）の大阪公演を皮切りに、北海道、東京、名古屋で開催される。

昨年2022年は「Pachinko」と銘打ったツアーを行ったアキト。今年も公演時間は約100分を予定している。「ダブル」のツアー名に伴い、アキトからは「一生懸命一生懸命、、ガンガンバリバリますます!!」といったコメントが到着した。チケットはTIGETで昨日9月15日より9月18日（月）23:30まで一般抽選受付中。

福岡市の私立高で５月、２年の女子生徒がいじめを訴える遺書を残して自殺し、学校がいじめ防止対策推進法に基づく「重大事態」に認定していなかった問題で、学校が方針を一転し、重大事態に認定したことが１６日、分かった。近く県に報告する。認定は１５日付。

同法は、いじめが原因と疑われる自殺は重大事態と認定し、迅速に調査するよう規定している。学校は取材に対し「県から、いじめが疑われる事情があった時点で認定すべきだと指摘を受けた」と説明した。

学校によると、女子生徒は「無視されてつらかった」などと記した遺書を残して自殺し、遺族は学校側に調査を依頼。教職員への聞き取りや全生徒対象の学校生活アンケートでいじめが疑われる情報がなく、学校は「いじめはなかった」と結論づけていた。

NFLのシーズン第1週の驚きの1つはシアトルで起きた。さらなる高みに到達するという希望を胸に2023年シーズンを迎えていたシアトル・シーホークスが、二の次にされていたロサンゼルス・ラムズに敗れたのだ。

特に後半では、シーホークスは期待に見合うようなプレーを見せていなかった。ラムズは最後の2クオーターで、攻守両面においてシーホークスを圧倒し、クオーターバック（QB）ジーノ・スミス率いるシーホークスのオフェンスを封じ込めて一方的な勝利を収めた。

結果は、一言で言えば驚愕だった。一見したところの才能では劣るラムズが、これまで無名だったワイドレシーバー（WR）プカ・ナクアとトゥトゥ・アトウェルの優れたパフォーマンスの波に乗って、30対13でシーホークスを下したのだ。全くと言っていいほど目立たなかったシアトルの主力選手たちは、現地13日（水）にそれを正すための第一歩を踏み出し、ゲームに勝つために最も必要な要素、つまり“努力”が欠けていたことを認めた。

ワイドレシーバー（WR）D.K.メットカーフは『The Seattle Times（シアトル・タイムズ）』に「彼らはもっと一生懸命プレーしていたし、フィールドでそれを感じた」と話し、こう続けている。

「試合を見ていたみんなもたぶん感じただろう。もし相手チームが自分たちよりも一生懸命プレーしているなら、負ける可能性は確実に高まる」

メットカーフは前半で大活躍し、素晴らしいフェイントでディフェンス陣を翻弄してタッチダウンを決めていた。スミスはただエンドゾーンにボールを軽く投げるだけでよかった。しかし、後半はメットカーフを含めてシーホークスの攻撃力がガクンと落ち、チーム全体でたったの12ヤードしか進めなかった。

一方、ロサンゼルスは命懸けで戦っていたかのようだった。

「他のみんなことは分からないけれど、自分に言えることは、とにかく努力だけだ」とメットカーフはコメントし、こう続けている。

「そして、プレー毎に100%の力が出すこと。それが、これまでのようにはいかなかったね。自分が改善しなければいけないポイントがそこだ。それと、チームプレーも大事。何か問題が起きたり、厳しい状況になった時、他の人を責めたり、誰か何とかしてくれると待っていたりする場合じゃない。コーチ頼りではダメだ」

「チームを見つめ直して、自分自身やチームメイト、これまでの練習で培ってきたものを頼りにしなければならない。7月後半から築いてきた結束力を活かさないと。要するに、もっとお互いに頼り合って、チームとしてプレーすることが必要だ」

シーホークスのヘッドコーチ（HC）ピート・キャロルも、プレーオフに戻るためには選手たちがこうした努力をする必要があると強調している。それはシーズン第2週から始まることだ。

「試合終了間際にはオフェンスがうまく機能していないように思えた。少し厳しい状況に陥ったと感じている」とキャロルは水曜日に認め、こう述べた。

「ディフェンスに関しては、試合終了間際にどれだけ一生懸命プレーしたかを指摘した。体力の問題じゃなくて、ちょっと気が散ってしまった。うまくいかなかった。オフェンスでのリズムをもっと取り戻さないといけない」

インターネットがなかった頃なら、観察者はシーホークスの努力不足を、自分たちについての新聞記事を読みすぎているチームがゆえの兆候として評価しただろう。間違いなく、このオフシーズンはそのような話題が多かった。たとえば、シーホークスがスミスの努力を評価し新しい契約を提供した時など。

しかし、その投資は日曜日の試合では報われなかった。スミスは26回中16回のパスしか成功できず、112パスヤードとタッチダウン1回（メットカーフへの短いパス）のみ記録。ラムズが着々とリードを広げる中で、スミスはほとんど影響を与えられなかった。

すべてはシーズン第2週のデトロイト・ライオンズ戦で修正できる。ライオンズは前年のチャンピオンであるカンザスシティ・チーフスを破ってシーズンをスタートしており、高揚感の中でホームに戻ってくる。昨シーズンに48対45で勝負が決まるまで接戦を演じたライオンズを倒すためには、シアトルが全力を尽くさなければならない。

疲れた者にも、自己満足している者にも、休む暇はない。シーホークスがこの教訓をすぐに学び、この週末に巻き返せるかどうか、注目される。

機械工学賞「死んだクモを生き返らせ、機械的把持器具として使用」

　米ライス大のダニエル・プレストン助教ら

　コモリグモという仲間のクモを低温で「安楽死」させ、死体の胴体に針を刺して固定。体内に注いだ液体の圧力を注射器で変化させることで、8本の脚を開閉させ、ものをつかむための器具として活用する方法を発明した。

　クモの死体はプラスチックなどとは違い、自然の中で分解される「生分解性材料」。このため環境に優しい技術だというのがセールスポイントの一つだ。

　「死」を意味する「ネクロ（necro）」という言葉と、「ロボティクス」を組み合わせた「ネクロボティクス（Necrobotics）」という新技術の開発に踏み出す第一歩だという。研究チームは「我々の祖先は（死体の）骨を道具として使ったり、毛皮を衣服にしたりしてきた。だが、生き物の死体を丸ごと動的なロボット部品にしたのは、これが初だろう」と誇っている。
