New film honors Solon Hardware's community impact - kwwl.com

SOLON, Iowa (KWWL) - Solon Hardware has been helping people improve their homes for nearly 45 years.

"You get your lawnmower fixed here; they'll come to your house, pick it up, fix it and bring it back to you," Barry Sharp said, who's lived in Solon since 2006.

Sharp says the staff always goes the extra mile and to thank them, he made the film "Dean's Dream." The movie is named after Dean Trump, who opened the store along with his wife Carolyn in 1975.

"He's been deceased 24 years but we're still here with his hardware store," Carolyn Trump said.

Sharp's film debuted at the Solon Community Center auditorium Sunday night, drawing a crowd of well over 200.

"At one point, we stood and turned around and I was just absolutely in awe," Carolyn Trump said.

Sharp and his partner on the film John Reynolds plan to show the film again at a nursing home in Solon as well as eventually enter it in a documentary film contest.
